Dhruva Maharaja is a legendary prince whose unwavering faith in Lord Vishnu made him immortalized as the Dhruva star (Pole Star). His story, narrated in the Vishnu Purāṇa and Bhagavata Purāṇa, serves as an inspiring example of determination, discipline, and devotion for all generations.


Dhruva was the young son of King Uttanapada and Queen Suniti. Denied the throne in favor of his elder stepbrother due to palace politics, Dhruva was deeply hurt and sought guidance from his mother. Suniti advised him to seek Lord Vishnu’s blessings.

Determined, Dhruva left the palace and undertook severe penance (tapasya) in the forest at a very young age. He meditated with unmatched focus and devotion, braving extreme hardships, hunger, and solitude. Pleased with his steadfastness, Lord Vishnu appeared before him and granted him a boon. Dhruva asked for a place where he could remain eternally in devotion. Vishnu blessed him to become the immortal Pole Star, symbolizing unwavering devotion and stability.
