Swayambhuva Manu is the first Manu of this current Manvantara and is considered the archetypal progenitor of humankind. Revered in the Vishnu Purāṇa, Matsya Purāṇa, and Bhagavata Purāṇa, he is celebrated for his wisdom, adherence to dharma, and role in maintaining cosmic order.
Swayambhuva Manu emerged directly from the mind of Brahma, the creator of the universe, at the dawn of Satya Yuga. He was appointed as the first Manu, entrusted with the responsibility of guiding humanity and establishing dharma (righteousness) on earth.
He married Shatarupa, who was created by Brahma alongside him, and together they became the progenitors of all humans. Their sons, Priyavrata and Uttanapada, went on to rule different parts of the earth, expanding Manu’s lineage and furthering the establishment of dharma.
