Biography

Early Life and Education

Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo was born into the royal family of Paralakhemundi in 1892. He received his early education in Odisha and later attended prestigious institutions in India. From a young age, he was influenced by nationalist ideas and the need for social and educational reforms in his region.

Role in Odisha’s Formation

During the British colonial period, Odisha was divided among different provinces, leaving Odia-speaking regions scattered. Krushna Chandra Gajapati played a pivotal role in the movement for a separate Odisha state. Through persistent efforts in negotiations with the British, he succeeded in bringing together the Odia-speaking regions to form Odisha in 1936.

Political Career

After the creation of Odisha, Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo became the first Prime Minister (Premier) of Odisha Province under British India’s provincial governance system. He focused on improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Post-independence, he continued to be an influential figure in Odisha’s political and social life, promoting industrial development, cultural heritage, and public welfare.
